Swimming

The swimming pool is a 33m indoor heated pool. A sauna and steam room is provided on the poolside for relaxation. Changing rooms include lockers and hairdryers. Access for people with a disability is made easier with convenient parking, exclusive changing accommodation and a poolside hoist.

Swimming pool guidelines suggest that pool water temperature should be maintained around 27 - 29 degrees, with the air temperature about 1 degree higher.

A competition pool is normally kept at 27 degrees and a leisure pool at 29 degrees. The swimming pool at Goodwin Sports Centre is kept to 28 degrees. We find this provides a good balance between those customers wishing to swim lengths and those wishing to swim at a more leisurely pace.

The swimming pool is supervised by our team of qualified pool lifeguards.

Our lifeguards hold the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and attend regular staff training to keep their skills and knowledge up to date. As an Approved Training Centre Goodwin Sports Centre is assessed once a year and for 2011/2012 gained 100% in the Institute of Qualified Lifeguards External Verification Assessment.
