David Wetherill's Superman Table Tennis Shot goes viral

When Sport Sheffield first cited the You tube video of Sheffield Alumni’s Paralympic Table Tennis Shot it had around 22,000 views earlier in the week now it is 4 million and counting – if by any chance you have not seen it !! See it here

In an interview for the newspapers yesterday David commented:

Wetherill, said he was astounded by the amount of coverage his shot has received.

“I grew up watching these sorts of shots on YouTube, and now I am in one of them, it feels incredible.

“Firstly, it is great for the Paralympics and for table tennis. Hopefully it will show people that the Games are exciting, and that the skill level is often right up there with the Olympics.

“People have said the shot was ‘inspirational’. It is not my place to say, but it is great to hear if that is the case.

“My biggest concern was that I looked like some silly little disabled boy rolling across the floor, but that doesn’t seem to have been the case.”

Wetherill said he hopes to trade the internet success for a medal at the next Games, in Brazil in 2016.

“My focus is Rio, it has got to be,” he said. “I went in to London 2012 thinking I had a good chance of a medal, so I am disappointed not to have come away with one.

“The buzz surrounding ‘that shot’ has helped motivate me even more.”

Sport Sheffield is delighted that David is receiving so much attention! WOW what a shot!
