Sport Sheffield Coronavirus Update
17 March 2020
In light of the new government information and after extensive consultation with the University Coronavirus Management group, the Sport Sheffield management team have taken the decision to close our facilities from 10pm today (17 March 2020).
As we are sure you can appreciate, the current situation with COVID-19 is extremely fast moving. We feel it would now be irresponsible to keep the facilities open any longer and increase the risk to our staff and customers. We hope you will support us in this action.
At this time we are unable to confirm when the facilities may reopen due to the changing nature of this pandemic. However, we would like to reassure you that we will continue to monitor the situation very closely over the coming weeks. We will share any updates through our website and social media channels as and when available.
We are aware that many customers will have queries about bookings, fitness memberships, and other activities with us; rest assured we will be in contact with all customers in due course with more detailed information.
Over the next few days our staff will be transitioning from office working to home working where possible and this will cause some delay and disruption in replying to queries. Please be patient, we will reply to every enquiry we receive however it will take longer than normal.
Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.
Sport Sheffield Coronavirus Update
14 March 2020
We would like to give you some reassurance that we are invested in your health and wellbeing and continuing to support you during these uncertain times is very important to us all at Sport Sheffield.
We know that many of you may be concerned about Coronavirus (COVID-19) and some of you have already contacted us for information. We would like to reassure you we are working hard behind the scenes to ensure we take all necessary and practical steps so you can safely and confidently continue to enjoy the facilities and activities that matter to you.
We are working closely with the University Corona Virus Management group, Public Health England and are reviewing our approach on a daily basis in line with the current planning and information available from the government and Sport England.
We all have a role to play to ensure you can stay fit, healthy and active. We try to be obsessive about the cleanliness of our facilities anyway, but we are giving extra attention to those frequently touched areas, such as door handles and counter surfaces.
We have already added hand sanitiser dispensers to our main areas although you will appreciate; we are in the hands of our supply chain.
You can help too, so please follow the advice to wash your hands thoroughly and please stay at home if you are feeling unwell.
For more information on how you can take action to protect yourself and others, you can visit the Public Health England Coronavirus website.
Some of you have particularly asked about the use of swimming pools.
We are taking advice from the Pool Water Advisory Group, who have also been working closely with Public Health England, and have said that their national leads “confirm that coronavirus would be inactivated at the levels of chlorine used in swimming pools".
Their additional information can be found here.
Some of you may be uncertain about continuing to use our facilities and we do understand. We will continue to monitor the changing environment and make the necessary decisions. This may mean the reduction of some facilities and services especially if we have a low staff number due to staff in self-isolation.
We will continue to keep you updated on this ever-changing situation via our dedicated information page on our website.
