Netball Club

Welcome to The University Of Sheffield Netball Club

SUNC is one of the largest female sports clubs across the university, with 7 teams and around 75 members. The club delivers a high quality of training and competitive match play, in addition to a wide range of other opportunities and support. We are a friendly and welcoming club and cannot wait to meet our new family members!

With 4 BUCS teams and 3 Development teams, we are a fun and exciting club based at the University of Sheffield. SUNC supports all our members in all aspects of University life, not just netball, by building an ethos where every member looks out for one another, to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and memorable university experience.

Since we are a large club with around 75 active members, our strong committee is essential to ensure the club reaches its full potential. There are 16 committee roles, taken up by hardworking and dedicated members. Decisions are made predominantly by the committee however everyone in SUNC has a voice.

Training provides the opportunity for each member to reach their full potential in all aspects of the sport, including netball specific skills, agility and fitness. Our highly qualified coaches provide a variety of tailored drills and sessions to enable each team and individual to reach their goals and succeed throughout the season.

SUNC emphasises progression and advancement up through the club is common for the majority of our athletes. The seventh team have recently been promoted into Division 3 of the South Yorkshire League, where they join the fifth and sixth teams who play in Division 1 and Division 3 (respectively) on a Tuesday evening.

Having maintained their place in Division 1, the 5s are looking to enter into the BUCS league next season. Our top 4 teams compete in BUCS matches each Wednesday, and travel across the country to play against various teams in the Northern League.

The fourth team will play in 6B, having experienced 2 promotions in the past 3 years. The third team will be competing in 5B and the second team remain in 3B. After a successful few seasons for the first team, they are back in the competitive 2B. Home matches are played at Goodwin Sports Centre, accompanied by mass support from our club members, plus family and friends.

After a day of match play, SUNC bonding begins with our famous weekly fancy dress socials. Match reports and games take place in Popworld and the night ends in ROAR, at the Student Union. As well as nights out together, SUNC ensure that a variety of intra-team and inter-team bonding takes place; enabling strong relationships to form throughout the club through our ‘netball family’ system. SUNC also provide members with various charitable opportunities, such as fundraising events for our two chosen charities and volunteering work within the local community, especially coaching in schools. Other opportunities include a week of fun on our European Tour and Varsity, which is an occasion which should definitely not be missed.

If you want to be part of a club that prides itself on friendship and support as well as success on the netball court then do not hesitate to get in touch and trial for SUNC, we would love to meet you!
