Welcome to The University Of Sheffield Orienteering and Fell Running Club
In ShUOC you can learn how to navigate like a pro and tackle forests and mountains with speed! It's a running club for people who love adventure!
What are Orienteering and Fell Running?
Two unique adventure sports.
Orienteering - the ultimate navigational challenge: precise map reading to find points in a forest as fast as you can. Run in events across Britain and Europe with ShUOC and our UK university orienteering community, whatever your ability.
Fell running: drop the map (maybe just put it in your bag!) and hit the hills - fell running is all about combining endurance and a bit of magic to enjoy beautiful off-path runs in the Peaks, Lakes, Snowdonia and more.
Who are ShUOC?
The perfect training partners: there is always someone to run with, laugh with and be inspired by. It’s about adventure, exploring and fast friendly competition. We are also one of the UK’s leading universities for orienteering and fell running, many of our members have represented Great Britain at international level.
Who is it for?
Anyone who:
• enjoys running (you don’t have to be good at it yet!)
• is comfortable with some mud, steep hills and getting lost
• has an open mind (to pick up skills like navigation and gain the confidence to make your own days out in the fells)

Training
Details
Circuits/Drills - Circuits consists of periods of effort, working the core muscles, followed by a short period of rest. We work our way around the body, combining floor work, weights and running drills. Intervals - Intervals consist of a short period of fast running, followed by a period of recovery. These sessions are aimed at improving speed and aerobic endurance. Social Runs - These sessions are a great way to bond as a team. The aim is to run at a comfortable pace with varying abilities to share the fantastic trails just beyond the city. Hills - Like intervals, hills consist of periods of hard effort up the hill, followed by a period of recovery running down the hill. Hills are great for aerobic endurance and leg strength. Orienteering Training - We head to a local forest/moor for a bit of getting lost while hunting flags. Weekend Shenanigans - We either travel to Orienteering events and Fell Races nearby or across the country, or we take public transport/cars to the Peak District for longer Social Runs in exciting terrain.
