SheffSki Club

Welcome to The University Of Sheffield Ski Club

Welcome to The University of Sheffield Ski Club We’re the official Ski Club at the University - as well as coaching Race and Freestyle teams, and entering all major university leagues and competitions - we also organise the University’s Ashes to Alps Christmas ski trip and a smaller Easter ski trip

The club runs two ski trips a year, the first over the Christmas holidays and the second over the easter break. Somewhat of a Sheffield legend, our annual Christmas holiday is called Ashes to Alps, and also hosts the Sheffield Snowsports Varsity competitions. This year over 600 students will head out to a world-class location for a week of snowy madness and mayhem. The club will be joined by Sheffield legends Tuesday Club and Andy H (with more of the line-up still to be revealed)! The second ski trip we run is in the first week of Easter, which will be announced later in the year. Like our Facebook page to stay up to date!

We offer training sessions to our athletes in the disciplines of race and freestyle, and take part in all UK university leagues and competitions (BUCS, BUDS, BUiSC, Kings’). Regular training takes place throughout the year, these will be on both dry slope and real snow at the indoor slope in Castleford. These sessions will be organised by captains Katy and Rosamund, in preparation for the competitive highlight of our year – Sheffield Snowsports Varsity. Our teams include people of all abilities, from beginners to advanced skiers, so speak to us about how to get involved!

We run socials every fortnight for our members – with our first one of the year attracting over 150 people, they’re an incredible way to have fun and make new friends at uni. Socials will vary from a bar crawl ending up at ROAR (the university sports night at the Students Union) to other events in Sheffield with our partners The Tuesday Club and Nice Like Rice. As a club we place emphasis on a wide range of socials, so not just nights out – we organise trampolining, club curry nights, pub quizzes. The aim of our socials is to offer a different dynamic to other sports clubs at the university.

Every fortnight we travel up to Xscape Castleford (affectionately known as Cas), giving people the chance to ski recreationally on the indoor slope, and also have lessons for those who want to learn to ski. Recreational passes are subsidised by the club to make them affordable, and we work closely with Cas to get special rates for lessons.

If you’ve got any questions or want to know more, please get in touch with us at, and we’d love to help!

There are loads of ways to get involved with SheffSki – the best way to find out about what we’re up to is through social media, so give us a like on Facebook and follow us on Instagram and Twitter. We also hold regular sessions on-campus for you to chat with committee and purchase tickets and merchandise, details of these are posted online. Every fortnight we hold our huge SheffSki socials and everyone is welcome on these – the more the merrier! We run regular trips to the snow dome at Xscape Castleford, and we have race and freestyle training sessions – again everyone is more than welcome to join these. We run domestic trips to competitions which are highly attend by both our athletes and by spectators, most notably BUDS which is held in the first weekend of November and is a great way to get involved in the club. The highlight of the year for us is our ski holidays – we guarantee you will have the time of your life on these, they are definitely not to be missed.

Increase membership and holiday numbers. Improve club satisfaction for the members. Increase the number of members on socials and attending the domestic trips such as getting more members to attend BUDS. Get more people into skiing, through the use of; Learn-to-Ski packages for beginners, racing and freestyle skiing training sessions, subsidised coaching sessions and creation of social groups aimed at building groups of friends to ski with. Regarding sport performance, we would love to reach Kings’ Finals again, medal at BUiSC North and get into the BUiSC finals again. Compete well at BUDS, and most importantly win the Winter Varsity title over Hallam!

The first racing training session and team selection will be held on the 30th September between 12-6pm. Further race training sessions will be announced on the Sheffield University Ski Racing facebook page. The freestyle team will be running freestyle specific sessions once a month, along with this there will limited features setup at the fortnightly CAS sessions. Our fortnightly trips to Castleford are open to all members, and are a good way to develop your skiing, and have a load of fun with your friends. Competitor training times are communicated through our Race and Freestyle Captains, and information on Castleford trips is available on our social media and website.
