Updated 29/07/2020

WHY ARE THE SPORT AND FITNESS FACILITIES CLOSED?

Following advice from the relevant authorities, including the Government, NHS and Public Health England regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19), the University of Sheffield has taken the difficult decision to temporarily close our sports facilities from 10.00pm on Tuesday 17 March until further notice. This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we appreciate that it may be disappointing for many but the decision has been made to protect the health and wellbeing of our customers and staff, which is our number one priority.

ARE ALL OF YOUR FACILITIES CLOSED?

All of our indoor and outdoor facilities are closed, at Goodwin Sports Centre and Norton Sports Park.

WHEN WILL YOU REOPEN FACILITIES?

The situation around COVID-19 is changing on a daily basis and therefore we are unable to give an exact date for re-opening. We are hoping to reopen the gym on Monday 3rd August and following this the swimming pool on Monday 10th August.  We will then reintroduce fitness classes on Monday 17th August.

Our team is working hard to get the facilities re-opened as soon as it is safe to do so.

We were extremely pleased to hear the Government’s decision to allow indoor gyms and leisure facilities to re-open and we are working round to put new measures in place including new signage to ensure we all respect social distancing, one way systems, bookings for all facilities and hand sanitising and cleaning stations.

WILL MEMBERS/USERS BE CONTACTED WHEN THE FACILITIES REOPEN?

We will stay in contact with our customers during the period of closure. We encourage customers to stay as active as possible whilst the facilities are closed and will be providing at home workouts

OPENING TIMES

Please be aware that we will be following a phased reopening plan and our opening hours will be reduced as we navigate this.  We will make you aware of the changes to opening hours when they are confirmed.

FITNESS MEMBERSHIPS

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY FITNESS MEMBERSHIP? (DIRECT DEBIT)

We can confirm your membership has been frozen with immediate effect as a precautionary measure due to the current COVID-19 situation.

When the facilities reopen you can opt to unfreeze early at any point, please email the membership team to do this ahead of your expected return.

While the facilities are closed, no payments will be collected. Once re-opened, the next payment date will be reviewed and communicated before collection.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY FITNESS MEMBERSHIP (UPFRONT PAYMENT)

Fixed memberships such as this are not usually eligible to be frozen, however, due to the current circumstances we have frozen all accounts with immediate effect.

When the facilities reopen and you are ready to return you can opt to unfreeze, please email the membership team to do this ahead of your expected return. We will add the time missed on to your subscription.

CAN I CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP DUE TO THE COVID 19 OUTBREAK?

Any member who wishes to cancel must submit a request via email to the membership team. This will be considered on a case by case basis.

BOOKINGS

WILL MY BLOCK BOOKING STILL BE HONOURED WHEN THE FACILITIES REOPEN?

Yes! All block bookings will remain the same. Once we have a clear understanding of when the bookings will resume, we will be in touch.

WILL MY CHILD KEEP THEIR PLACE ON THE SWIMMING/BOULDERING LESSONS PROGRAMME?

Yes! Your child's place on the programme will be held by us. Once we have a clear understanding of when the programme will resume, we will be in touch.

I RECENTLY BOOKED MY CHILD A PLACE ON ACTIVE KIDS, WHAT HAPPENS WITH THAT BOOKING?

Customers who have booked Active Kids Camps will be offered the opportunity to transfer on to another date or will be offered a refund.

ARE YOU TAKING ANY BOOKINGS WHILE YOU ARE CLOSED?

The situation around COVID-19 is changing every day and as such we don't know when we will be able to resume normal operations at Goodwin Sports Centre and Norton Sports Park. As soon as we are able to open our doors we will make customers aware and we will open up the booking sheets.

WILL WE BE ABLE TO COMPETE IN THE CAMPUS LEAGUE KNOCKOUTS?

Completing league fixtures will be prioritised once we return to normal operation. Where it is unlikely that we will be able to stage knockouts this year, options will be looked into and communicated with all team captains.

CLUB SPORT ENQUIRIES

For all club sport enquiries please go to the club sport google site for more information.

SWIMMING LESSONS

The remainder of our swimming lesson terms were cancelled when we closed on 17th March.  If you would prefer a refund please let us know, otherwise any payment owed will be carried over for when we reopen.

We are all so excited to restart lessons and hope that lessons will recommence from September 2020. We will be in contact with all customers prior to lessons restarting to explain the changes to the programme and confirm the start date.

REOPENING FAQS

We are constantly reviewing our policies and procedures and the following information is correct as of 23rd July 2020. Please be aware that as the situation progresses we will continue to review this and it is subject to change in the future.

We will be reopening our facilities with a phased approach to allow us to carefully manage the reintroduction of customers into our facilities, following advice from relevant governing bodies as well as the government Covid-Safe guidance.

All visits will need to be pre-booked online and each area will have a limited capacity.

GENERAL REOPENING INFORMATION

In order for us to ensure the safety of our customers and staff it is vital that cleanliness is our priority.  For this reason we are operating on a reduced timetable and allowing for extra cleaning before, between and after sessions.

Please find below more information on how we're working hard to keep you safe and ensure you have an enjoyable visit.

All activities will operate in sessions and must be pre-booked in advance. This will help us control the number of people on site, which means we can ensure a safe distance between our visitors.

Between all sessions, we have factored in a 30-minute changeover period to allow for you to exit your session safely without crowding in reception areas and for our teams to clean the facilities. Gym sessions will last 75 minutes and swim sessions will last 60 minutes.  This includes time to enter the facility and exit at the end of the session (including a quick change at the end of a swim).

Not all of our facilities will be available when we first reopen.  Facilities will be reopened on a phased return and following governing body/ government guidance.  We will keep you updated on this as it changes.

Changing facilities will be available for the swimming pool only.   Swimmers will be asked to     shower prior to their swim, but showers will not be available after swimming; customers will need to towel dry and change at home.

In our reception areas we will have screens up to protect you and our team.

We will have a 1 way system in place and signs on the floor and around the buildings to guide you safely - we ask that you follow these strictly to keep yourself and others safe. We will also have additional signage around the centre to help you with this.

Sanitising spray and a microfibre cloth will be provided on entry to the gym for use on equipment and lockers. This is to keep you and other customers safe.  Please ensure that you return these at the end of your session so that we can refill them and give them to the next visitors.

KEEPING STAFF AND CUSTOMERS SAFE

Our staff will be provided with masks where their role/task requires it for example when dealing with First Aid.

We have placed a screen on our reception desks to keep both staff and customers safe and we have removed the use of cash.

Please help us to keep staff safe by following signage around the centre and adhering to the rules which we have put in place.

CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY

We’ve missed all of our customers and we can’t wait to welcome you back when you feel ready.

We’ve put a lot of changes in place, and our staff have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to ensure that we are Covid-safe for reopening.  The rules will only work if everyone adheres to them. If you feel unwell, please stay home and stay safe.

If you have tested positive for Covid-19 and have visited our centre in the last 14 days  please let us know.

Please ensure that you follow the rules carefully to allow us to continue with our phased reopening plan.

Please let us know if you have any questions or comments regarding what we’ve put in place around the Centre.

BOOKING SLOTS

To ensure we can control numbers, gym, lane swimming sessions and fitness classes must be pre-booked.  This is to ensure the safety of our customers and staff.  We will no longer be handling cash.

In the first 2 weeks we will only open to members and there will be no pay as you go sessions available.

If you arrive at  Sport Sheffield without pre-booking we will not be able to allow you access.

You can book sessions 2 days in advance (from midnight).

Please note that you will only be able to take part in the activity that you have pre-booked.  If you wish to do more than one activity, you must book these separately (for example swimming and gym).  You will be required to join the queueing system outside if you have booked a second session.  To reduce footfall through the centre we will be staggering the session times of different activities.   After your session has ended, we ask that you leave the centre to ensure our total visitor count remains safe.  We ask that customers do not loiter or wait for friends.

To book online please click here - https://www.sport-sheffield.com/online/bookings/

If you wish to cancel or move a booking you must provide at least 24hours notice prior to the booking commencing and you can do this from your account screen (https://www.sport-sheffield.com/online/members/) on our online bookings platform

ARRIVAL AT SPORT SHEFFIELD

Please arrive no more 10 minutes before your scheduled activity. If you arrive early, please consider waiting in your car.

Please be aware that customers will be required to queue in the Car Park outside the swimming pool building for a short time whilst we allow customers to enter the facilities.  The car park does not have a cover so please bear this in mind, and consider bringing a small umbrella if rain is forecast.

There won’t be changing facilities available for gym/ class users so please arrive dressed for your activity and shower at home.

Changing facilities will be available for pool users, although we ask that you arrive ‘beach ready’ and just take a pre-swim shower.  There will only be a 10 minute changing time available at the end of your session and we ask that customers shower at home afterwards.  The changing rooms will be cleared by staff after 10 minutes to ensure adequate time for cleaning before the next session.

In the first couple of weeks, there will be somebody available at the door to give you information and answer quick questions.  Please ensure that you are social distancing at all times whilst passing through the facilities.

Please have your membership card ready on arrival to minimise time spent in the reception area

If you are making any payments whilst at Sport Sheffield we ask that you use contactless payments where possible.

There will be hand sanitiser stations available in reception and throughout the centre.

To aid the safe flow of people around the centre, we have introduced one-way systems in all areas, please stick to these routes.

Please ensure that you have a pre-swim shower as this aids the effectiveness of chlorine in the swimming pool.

At the end of your session, please return to the changing rooms and get changed quickly- there will be a 10 minute slot for you to get ready and we would encourage you to shower at home to minimise time spent in the changing rooms.

Toilets and wash basins will be available in the pool changing rooms and cleaned regularly

Disabled and baby change facilities will be available.

Please note that at all sites, hand dryers will be available to use but hairdryers will not be available.  Water fountains will be available to fill bottles.

GYM

When we reopen the fitness centre it is going to be slightly different to how you knew it before.  Please see below for what has changed;

There will be a 1 way entry system into and around the gym, please respect this.

Some gym equipment has been spaced out to allow for social distancing, and some equipment is unavailable in the short term.

The gym floor is clearly marked, so the space you have available is clear.  Please respect this at all times and do not move equipment out of the designated areas.

Spotting is not currently allowed and therefore please only lift weights which you are comfortable with.

Please maintain social distancing at all times in the gym when using equipment and when moving from one piece of equipment to the next.

Please be mindful of other customers when in an area where all equipment is taken and move on to allow someone else to use equipment once you have finished.

On entry to the gym you will be provided with a small sanitiser bottle and a microfibre cloth.  Please ensure this is returned at the end of your session.

Please clean down equipment thoroughly before and after use.  Staff will also use the time before and after slots to ensure the gym is thoroughly cleaned for the next customers as well as cleaning as normal whilst customers are in the gym.

If you feel unwell or have displayed any symptoms of Covid-19 within the last 14 days, please stay home, stay safe and follow NHS advice.

Please follow requests from our staff teams; they are there to keep you and other customers safe.

SWIMMING POOL

There are a number of key differences to your swimming experience when we reopen. Please see below for changes to our normal operating procedures;

Please be aware that we are reopening with a phased plan and opening times are reduced.

You are not currently able to ‘turn up’ for a swim and must book a slot as you would for classes.

Sessions are available in 60 minute slots (this includes entry and changing time) and can be booked via our website - to book online or register please click https://www.sport-sheffield.com/online/bookings/

You can view timetables and book 2 days in advance of the pool reopening, bookings become available from midnight each day.

The changes to swimming with regards to social distancing means that you may swim in 3 wide lanes (rather than 4 lanes) and capacity is limited to 20 swimmers.

Booking slots are considered with our other facilities in mind to reduce footfall around the Centre.  If you wish to do more than one activity you must book these separately (for example a gym and swim)

We are currently only opening for lane swimming but as we move through our phased opening we hope to introduce additional sessions.

Please help with cleaning regimes and managing footfall by minimising your time spent in the changing rooms.

Children can attend lane swimming sessions if they are a competent lane swimmer (must be able to swim 33m easily) but they must be able to maintain the appropriate pace in the pool and adhere to lane swimming etiquette. The child will require an account and their session will need to be booked in advance in the same way as adults. There is one booking slot permitted per person so an adult cannot book for a child.

Hand sanitiser stations will be available throughout the centre.

Please bring along any swim aids required as there will be no swimming equipment available to borrow.

Please bring your own drink as vending machines are unavailable.

Changing rooms will be available for swimmers, but please arrive beach ready with your swimming costume under your clothes so that you can change as quickly as possible minimising time spent in changing areas.

Please ensure that you have a pre-swim shower, this allows the chlorine to work effectively.

A one way system is in place in the pool hall. Please follow the arrows and ENTER the pool at the SHALLOW END. You will then be asked to EXIT the pool at the DEEP END.

Please enter the pool at your start time.

Please choose a lane that is suitable for your swim speed, we do not encourage moving lanes.

Please maintain social distancing at all times.

No overtaking - Please wait to pass swimmers at the end of a length, please be aware of other swimmers and allow them to pass you at the end of a lane. Before pushing off at each turn, check to see if anyone faster is approaching.

Please follow requests from lifeguards as they are there to keep you safe.

Swimtag is not currently in use.

If you feel unwell or have displayed any symptoms of Covid-19 within the last 14 days, please stay home, stay safe and follow NHS advice.
