As award winners last weekend, SUCC attended British Canoeing’s national Volunteer and Athlete Recognition Award ceremony. Receiving a trophy and cheque for being Club of the Year runners up, this was the first time a university club had been invited to the event, let alone received such a prestigious award. This night highlighted the instrumental role volunteers in clubs across the country have in keeping up the sport’s success, all the way through to hearing from Rio 2016 medal winners.
We are truly honoured to have received this award and it's a reflection of our hard work over the last few years: it’s great to represent universities clubs across the UK. We were recognised for our innovation in fundraising and volunteering, improving the access to kayaking for novices and our new shed development. We were commended by the organising committee on the night for our achievements over these last few years.
The Canoe Club thank all the staff at Sport Sheffield, the Alumni foundation, our sponsors (Fox and Duck, Interval, Vision Direct) and Phil Scowcroft (our regional British Canoeing representative) for supporting us and helping to add another trophy to our growing collection.
Visit our Twitter and Facebook pages to see who we rubbed shoulders with on the night.
